There is an artist within each and every one of us. It is a question of being open and present in the moment, observing the world with all our senses without preconceptions. The very fact that we have two eyes and see three-dimensional form in stereo is a miracle. How incredible it is that two upside-down images, 65 mm apart from each other, viewed through a lens are reflected 180 degrees by our brain?
What is a rose bush? How does it come into being? How is it possible to have such distinct interrelated plant families like our own species that have evolved across time for who knows how many hundreds of thousands or millions of years? The world, the universe is a miracle. We are part of the sum of everything that exists. We, like the rose bush, are part of the intelligence of all nature.
Dall’Alto is an annunciation of a rose bush, a delicate gesture created in the air with cotton thread that projects the branching form above to a single point in the rose garden at Rocca Ripesena in Umbria (‘Paese delle rose’). This rose named ‘Rosa Cymosa’ is located at the foot of a steep volcanic embankment that speaks of millennia of geological time. What intelligence creates all things, here and beyond? Like the images that enter our eyes – the threads of Dall’Alto announce the form of the rose.
