ANEMOGRAPHS
April 10 – May 10, 2015
Dimensions:
Variable
Materials:
Ink on Paper (with Wind and Plant)
Anemographs are created with a suspended pen animated by the energy of the wind. The artist choreographs the delicate elements, working with branches, counterweights, small towers and other simple mechanisms to harness the chance gestures in precise moments of time, tracing nanoseconds across days and nights. The result is a recording; behaving as a pendulum, the pen plots the fluctuations of rippling water and shifting currents in wide arcs, swarms of minute points, and explosive flourishes.
Anemographs are recordings of the passage of time, captured on paper without the hand, to render visible the unseen forces in the world around us.
A selection of these works were presented in 2015 at a solo exhibition at ART 101 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
