Set flush against an exterior gallery wall in the high-end shopping district of Historic Rome, a vitrine displayed a celestial model. The incrementally spaced planes of glass within were dusted with cement powder, forming rings that delineated a precise, elliptical volume. In the center of the fragile space was a single sphere of brilliant ultramarine blue, refracting and reflecting the changing natural light as it passed through the layers of glass.
Where is the Universe explored the fundamental question of the origin of the planet itself and its relationship to the larger whole. With the lone blue sphere serving as a symbolic vessel within which the viewer may locate themselves amid the cosmos, this work challenged the perception of the planet as an isolated entity and was motivated by a profound sense of wonder at the eternal mysteries of the Universe.
